France records 779 arrests during Saturday protests

A total of 779 people were arrested across France during a new round of protests on Saturday against the rising cost of living, French television channel BFM TV reported Sunday, citing figures from the French Interior Ministry.

Around 320,000 people took part in a new round of protests across France on Saturday, according to the ministry. In Paris, the ministry put the number of demonstrators at 70,000 as of 5 p.m. (1600 GMT) on Saturday.

Although most marches passed off peacefully, the dispersal of protesters led to tensions in several cities. In Paris, a homemade explosive device detonated at the feet of a member of the security forces near Porte de Charenton in the 12th arrondissement on Saturday, leaving him slightly injured.

Iran designates Britain's navy, air force, MI6 as "terrorist, hostile" entities

The Iranian Foreign Ministry on Sunday announced that Tehran had designated Britain's Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) as "terrorist and hostile" entities over the British government's anti-Iran actions over the past year.

The decision, effective Sunday, was based on a resolution adopted by Iran's Supreme National Security Council, the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry condemned the British government's anti-Iran policies and actions as contrary to the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law, particularly those concerning respect for national sovereignty and the prohibition of unlawful measures against other states.

Trump says Flavio Bolsonaro can stay in U.S. "as long as he wants"

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he had no plans to meet defeated Brazilian presidential candidate Flavio Bolsonaro, but that he could stay in the United States "as long as he wants."

"No plans to meet, but I think he got treated very shabbily. He can stay here as long as he wants ... The election was a disgrace," Trump told reporters at his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida.

Bolsonaro, the Liberal Party candidate who lost the runoff on Oct. 25, arrived in the United States with his family on Wednesday aboard a private plane that departed from Argentina and made a stopover in Ecuador.

Bolivia declares state of emergency over El Nino

Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz signed a decree Saturday declaring a national state of emergency to address the impacts of El Nino.

Paz said he signed the decree to tackle drought affecting several regions of the country and prepare for potential flooding in the coming months.

The president said the measure aims to mobilize financial and human resources, strengthen coordination among government agencies and seek international cooperation to assist affected families and mitigate the impact of climate-related disasters on people's lives and economic activities.
